Cameriere says the Conductor could take no luggage, his Diligence being already carico.[1] ― What to do? ―

The same thing may occur again indefinitely ― & it don’t do to go on without luggage. So I decide ― & send off George at once in a one-horse trap ― (for 12fr. ―) to bring back the boxes from Alassio ― in case they are not indeed sent on by the next Diligence. At 9 ― went up to the Ponte or Gallery to draw, & G. passed me at 9.30. A very grand coast scene: drew till 12. Morning fine, & weather cold ― apparently more settled.

Back to the Hotel della China ― & breakfasted. A diligence arriving now has brought no luggage ― so I have done rightly to send. At 1.30 1 set off & walked to Varigotti ― the afternoon cloudier but fine. Many pretty bits of scene are along the coast. Returned from the farthest point I went to at 2. ― & drew ― & again at the town till 4.15.

On going back to the Hotel, the Suliot was there with the luggage ― a comfort. So having nothing more to do at Finale, I order dinner, & the same trap for Savona tomorrow if fine. Dine very well ― for the cooking here is excellent, & the whole Hotel recommendable. And bed at 9.30.
