Very lovely weather again, but cold. Rose at 6 ― & penned out one Cretan drawing before prayers at 9. (Litany.) Breakfast social & pleasant. Afterwards ― looking at the Campagna drawings ― of which they chose the Alexandrian acqueduct view.

Walk about the grounds ― very beautiful ― playing & singing & sitting with Sir W.J. till 1.30 ― or 2. Lunch. (Sir W.J. says E.L. declined to marry …………, though she wished him to do so ― for fear of hurting the feeling of the ……… family! ― quite contrary to Lady D. who said she knew he had married her.)

After Lunch, walked with Sir W.: fine broad views, & harvest scenes. He is a good hearted man. Returned at 5.30 ― & at 6.15 ―walked again to farms & col. Tullochs ― cold ― but lovely harvest scenes. Dinner at 8[.]

Afterwards, sung a good deal. A more amiable & refined lot of people ― unspoiled by fortune ― does not live. Bed at 11.
