Tuesday, 9 August 1864

Rose at 6. ― & then, & until 11 ― arranged things for going out of town for a week. Saw the commencement of Gush’s likeness of dearest Ann, which I like extremely. At 11.30 came to C. Cross station. Journey alone ― but slow & stopping ― & did not get to Sandwich till nearly 5. Fly to Betteshanger ― & rain. Dinner & evening immensely pleasant.

Singing & bed at 11.

It rained ― from 4 ― all the evening.
