Rose ― strange to say ― at 6: for there was sunshine: tho’ very soon it clouded. Began to color the Zante sketches. 8. Breakfast. Thomas Cooper ill. Later, found that Gush had [let] the 3rd room above to the man on the Ground floor. wh. is a serious nuisance.

Worked at the Zante drawings ― & before 4 ― finished all.

Mrs. G. Clive & Mrs. Mildmay came: all hurry. Later, Lawson ― a good fellow.

Later ― 4 ― Gussie ― & Mrs. John Bethell. ―

There is but one Gussie so one need not comment.

Then I walked out ― at 5 ― & called at Wade-Brownes ― (out,) Lady Jam4es ― whom I saw…… Evens’s ― out.

Saw J. Hutchinson.

Went to Jones ― & [Kead] ― & in a cab to D. Wyatts ― by 6.45.

Kindly hospitable people! ―

Walked home by 11. Most dreadful depression have I suffered today!!! yet τὶ νὰ καμωμεν;[1]
