Quite perfect lovely all day.

But it was a tiresome day ― & I could not enjoy the outer world.

First, sending (& writing) lots of letters ― Ellen, Fairbairn, Dickenson, Day, Cooper, Mrs. Geoff Hornby ― & to Mrs. Bethell, & 9 non-payers ― Dudley, Rendlesham, Horsford, Cowper, Willis, ˇ[Henry] Edwards ― Waterson, Woodthorp, Sutherland.

X3 sudden.

Then, worked at Argostoli, & Florence ― but at neither well ― all day ― till 6.

Sturt, E.E. came at 6 ― & staid to 7.20 ― a really nice fellow.

But ― the destruction of Vido & the Forts impends ― & bores me: as does the Danish war: & I could feel inclined to pack up & be off ― but then I must go to England to finish the paintings, & that I won’t do.

Dined μοναχῶς ―

& penned out till 11.15 ― at the Blk Mountain drawings. ―
