Gray early ― Wet after 12.

Worked at Walnut trees in Turin picture all day ―― but interrupted by, letters from C.F. & F.L. ― & by Wade-Browne & E. Baring calling.

I asked W. Browne to dine, but G. was out, & only came back by 5 ― so difficilmente[1] an improviso dinner was got up of curry ―

Evening pelasant. Penned out till near 11. Wet night ― the last ball, I suppose, ever to be given at Corfû by Ἄγγλοι. Ὁ ἐσχάτος χορός.[2]

Μάλιστα.[3] Decbr. 1. 1864

[1] Only with difficulty.

[2] The last ball (NB).

[3] Indeed (NB).
