Brighter & colder ― i.e. fine all day.

Did not go out ― but wrote ― 41 receipts & letters ― hard work. at 4. came Charles Whittingham, & staid till 6.15 ― a kindly nice fellow.

Set off at 7.10. to Abbey Lodge: ― cab broke down ― gave poor cabman his fare 1/6 ― & walked on ― but got another cab.

The Bunsenian sphere is hard, & absurd, & liony: but they are kindly in meaning.

Dinner ἔτζι κ’ἔτζι ― but passable: wines good.

The Professor next me spoke only French, & I asked him how he liked the environs of London. “Mon Dieu! Qu’est ce que c’est que ça me fait? Ce m’est egal. Je ne viens ici pour lorgner les paysages ― Je viens faire une position.”

Afterwards ― some good music.
