Friday, 4 December 1863

Very cold ― dry ― gray.

Wrote all day ― 11 or 12 more subscriptions.

Sidney Lane & C. Bagot came.

At 4 ― walked to Wyatts (T.H.) & saw Mrs. W. & poor Constance.

Returned & wrote till 6.30. At 7.30 went to S. Caves, & found all waiting ― but they had said 7.30 to some, & 7. to others. Dinner good & lively & numerous & pleasant. It seems the Duke of N. has really resigned. Sad ― sad.

1863-12-04

Evening also pleasant.

Home by 11.30.
