Foggy ― very cold, but dry.

Wrote, finishing the Letterpress till 1. ―

Came good Julian Goldsmid at 1.30 ― & sate ― correcting MSS till 3.30. A great help.

Subscribers 295.

Walked at 4. to T. Hamilton’s ― out. Then, walked to S. Bergmann’s ― by 5.45.

Did not dress ― S. having written that only a family party were coming, when lo! “the Waddilives” were announced. How often have I heard those names ― Lavinia W. ― &c. ― !!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Both Lavinia & her elder sister, Mrs. Clanart are fine women tho’.)

Dr. K. is a bore ― & ill-bred: asking for claret when none was ― (there were 4 other wines.) Evening not unagreable.

Walked home partly ― partly cab by 11.
