X. ― O bother.

Roe at 7.

Worked awfully hard colouring the Ithaca drawings ― & by 6. I finished all, ― & sent them off to Tarrant by T. Cooper.

Intanto[1] ― at 1 or 2 ― came J. Hutchinson & Mrs. H. ―This was really very kind of him ― for there is no Earthly reason why he should put himself out of the way. Mrs. H. is a most pleasant ˇ[ladylike] & sensible woman ― so far as one hour’s acquaintance can divine. Her voice is very sweet ― & tho’ not pretty ― I liked her at once. H. & she seem to have been married 58 years at least.

At 6.30. I walked up Portland Place ― but dear me! how many beggars there were! Πόσοι Ζητικοί![2] ―

Returning at 9 ― I wrote to Παραμυθιόττι & Giorgio. ― & had some supper.

[1] Meanwhile.

[2] How many beggars! (NB).
