Rose at 8. ! ! ! ―

Miserable work.

Penned till 10 ― & then began a chalk & charcoal drawing of Παλαιοκαστρίτζα ― but did no good.

The younger Maclean called.

And Stephen Cave, whom it was a pleasure to see.

Thought I would make small designs for all the 20. Ionian plates ― but beginning one, it was time to go out at 4.

Went to see Church’s Icebergs ― the picture does not seem to me so good as the Andes,[1] but it is very wonderful.

Bought a prayer-book 13/― for Minnie E. Morse, & cab 1/6. to Fanny Coombe.

Mr. Morse is evidently a gentlemanly & an amiable man.

Dinner ―

1863-07-25

Evening quiet, yet less sadly dull than sometimes.

Cab home by 10.30. 1/6

[1] Probably Frederic Edwin Church’s The Heart of the Andes (1859).
