Monday, 13 October 1862

Somewhat fine early: soon gloomy: & after 1 or 2 ― rain & horror: al solito.

Drew quietly all day at Spezzia & Athos ― for Sir F. Baring: I like doing drawings for Stratton ― they are such a good kindly lot..

Remarkable absence of events. No letters, no nothin! Only C.L. Massingberd called; a good fellow: but slowly ― sadly ― surely worsening by idle life! ―

At 5 I walked ὑπὸ οὐμβρέλλα[1] ― to Bickers & Bush & baid a pill: ― £3.5.8 to wit.

Returned & dined aloan. Letter from Ellen, & wrote to her.
