Fine till 10 ― after which rain all day: & often darkness ― & always cold.

Worked at Gastouri & Ascension Corfus till 7. P.M. interrupted only by note writing, & by Lawson with 3 Ladies who came at 4.

Dined alone. a bore.

Considering that on the whole I am in better “life” than at often & previous times: \\ ― & considering ˇ[also] that I have, (against me), much debt ― much uncertainty, & much unwillingness ― physical & mental, towards exertion, ― I am obliged to ask ― why am I better able to bear up against these drawbacks than formerly ―why am I in “better life.” ― The answer is ――――――――

Καταλαμβάνωμεν πολῦ καλὰ.[1]

But much remains to be done, & to do. ―

[1] We understand very well (NB).
