Slept well. ― Rainy (!) & wintry morning. No paper. ― Caught cold yesterday in right eye, & to day it is much inflamed. Wrote to, & sent letters to

At 2 walked to Hastings & up the East Cliff. high wind, doing my eye no good. brightsome later on.

At 5 dined with the W. Scrivens: good kind folk. pleasant evening, walked home by 11.

Eye bad ― & unwell altogether.
