Rose at 8. After breakfast came a letter from Ann. ― Not so elastic or bright as usually, & I found she is not very well, poor dear. I wrote & sent off mine to her. Worked a bit at various of the 8 small pictures. ― H. Cortazzi always more or less thought of. Lushington came in, & told me the Canton & India News, & arranged that I should sail, which I hate. However at 2 I went once more to the Midge ((Lushington’s yatch.)) ― nearly a year since I left it at Tre Scoglie. Day ― milder ― dark-gray, & not windy. We went over quite to just below Σπαρτιλλα, ― & then walked by Ipso, & the sea=walk & olive promontories, to Govino, & so home. But L., who had to dine out hurried so that I got knocked out, & left him to go on alone below [Candorico]. ― I got home by 7, tired & heated: dined alone, & now, 9, am going to bed. ―
